Overview
As a Captive Insurance Relationship & Operations Manager, you will serve as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to clients utilising captive insurance solutions. You will be responsible for managing client relationships, overseeing day-to-day operations of captive entities, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, and delivering insights that enhance the value of the captive structure.

Client Relationship Management
Act as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients using captive insurance vehicles, providing exceptional service and ongoing strategic support.
Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships by understanding each client’s risk profile, business objectives, and insurance needs.
Deliver proactive communication, including periodic performance reviews, updates on regulatory or market changes, and opportunities for optimisation.
Advise clients on risk financing strategies, captive utilisation, and program enhancements that align with their broader enterprise risk management goals.
Captive Operations Oversight
Manage the full operational lifecycle of captive entities, including underwriting, policy issuance, premium billing, claims administration, and investment oversight.
Coordinate the preparation and delivery of timely and accurate financial statements, regulatory filings, and compliance reports in accordance with local and international captive regulatory frameworks.
Work closely with actuaries, auditors, legal counsel, tax advisors, and regulators to ensure captives operate efficiently, profitably, and in full compliance with statutory and industry requirements.
Governance & Compliance
Develop, implement, and periodically update policies and procedures to ensure effective corporate governance, solvency compliance, and operational best practices for each captive entity.
Conduct regular reviews of regulatory requirements and ensure adherence to solvency, capital, and reporting obligations, including maintenance of appropriate documentation and due diligence records.
Perform sanctions screening and review of incoming fund transfers and payment requests, escalating as needed to the Compliance team.
Prepare and monitor key management reports and metrics, including Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), to detect, mitigate, and escalate operational or compliance risks.
Financial Management
Monitor and assess the financial performance of captive entities, ensuring appropriate reserving, capital adequacy, and profitability.
Support the Finance team in delivering accurate quarterly and annual financial reporting, including coordination with external auditors for the completion of audited financial statements.
Oversee financial transactions including premium collection, claims payments, reinsurance recoverable’s, and investment allocations within the captive structure.
Strategic Planning & Product Development
Develop and manage annual business plans and operating budgets for captive entities, ensuring alignment with both client and company strategic objectives.
Collaborate with the Product Development team to ensure that all captive offerings align with regulatory requirements (e.g., BMA license conditions) and meet evolving client needs.
Identify opportunities for innovation within captive programs, including the use of reinsurance, multi-line/multi-year structures, or portfolio diversification to increase value and efficiency.
Business Development Support
Partner with the Business Development team to promote captive solutions to prospective clients, providing subject-matter expertise during the sales process.
Assist in the preparation and delivery of captive feasibility studies, including risk analysis, structural recommendations, and cost-benefit evaluations tailored to each prospect.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Core Technical Skills
Captive Insurance Knowledge: Deep understanding of captive structures (single-parent, group, cell, rent-a-captive), risk retention, and alternative risk transfer.
Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of regulatory frameworks (e.g., BMA, NAIC, CIMA), including licensing, solvency, reporting, and governance requirements.
Financial Acumen: Strong grasp of financial statements, reserving, budgeting, capital adequacy, and investment principles.
Risk Management: Ability to analyse risk exposures and recommend appropriate insurance and reinsurance solutions within the captive model.
Underwriting & Claims: Familiarity with underwriting principles and claims management processes, including reserving methodologies and loss development analysis.
Operational & Analytical Skills
Operational Oversight: Experience managing day-to-day captive operations, including coordinating with TPAs, reinsurers, and service providers.
Data Analysis & Reporting: Ability to interpret financial and risk data, generate KPIs/KRIs, and produce client-ready reports.
Project Management: Proficiency in coordinating multiple stakeholders and deadlines, especially for audits, financial closings, and regulatory filings.
Policy Development: Competence in drafting, reviewing, and implementing internal policies and procedures related to governance and compliance.
Interpersonal & Communication Skills
Client Relationship Management: Proven ability to build trust and maintain long-term relationships with senior executives and risk managers.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Skilled at working with actuaries, auditors, legal counsel, finance, compliance, and product development teams.
Presentation & Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex insurance and financial concepts clearly and persuasively.
Technology & Tools
Proficiency in Software Tools: Familiarity with insurance management platforms, Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint, and accounting/ERP systems.
RegTech & Compliance Tools: Experience with tools used for sanctions screening, due diligence tracking, and regulatory reporting is a plus.
